A photo from my graduation ceremony at Tokyo University of the Arts
Hello and welcome
I am Efrat, an artist living and working in Tokyo.
I grew up in Israel and later studied in New York before completing my MFA in Fine Arts in Tokyo. Living in Japan has encouraged me to rediscover my own culture through a quieter lens, shaping the way I see ritual, craftsmanship, nature, and the meaning of home.
Working across watercolor, collage, printmaking, handmade paper, and ceramics, I create paintings and objects inspired by Jewish traditions, Japanese aesthetics, and the beauty of everyday life. My work brings together memories from different landscapes: desert plants, birds, mountain herbs, Shabbat candles, Jizō, handmade papers, and moments of serenity, allowing them to meet in conversation.
Alongside my studio practice, I teach art in international communities in Tokyo, where I enjoy sharing my love of the creative path with others.
